For Business Planning Myself and Collette decided to share the role of Advertising and Design.
I was in charge of creating different logo designs and font designs and also the editing side of the business.
I thought I would show on my the blog what I have contributed to our Business planning group.
Advertising and Design
We originally decided on the name of our wedding photography business as 'I do Photography' but we had to change it because it was Collettes' actual business name in real life. I thought up a list of names including I do Photography. We then put all the names that I thought up into a hat and picked one at random. This then turned out to be Treasured Memories.
Below I am going to show my initial font ideas using the name I do Photography. The other names I came up with were 'Captured Memories' 'Dream Come True' 'Making Memories' 'The Perfect Shot'.
I did these logo Ideas in Photoshop using some of the fonts that were already on Photoshop but I also downloaded some that I thought would suit our wedding business. I downloaded fonts named 'Baroque Script' 'Chopin Script' 'Birth of a hero' and others that I thought looked modern but also had a classical taste to them. I also experimented with a mix of colours in the image above as I thought we should be open to all colours and not just original creams, whites and blacks that are associated with weddings.
After changing the name of our wedding photography company I decided to design several logo's and showed them to each member of our group and asked everyones opinions, what they'd like to change and what they thought was best for our company. I am going to display some of the more successful logo's I designed below.
This was one of my more favoured logo's as I thought it fitted perfectly for a wedding. I wanted to use a classic floral style in my logo but also wanted to keep it modern which is why I have used the roses and then a swirly green pattern. I also kept to the colour scheme and made the font colour pink to match the flowers, I also decided to use a fancy and swirly font to match the green pattern.
This logo pictured above was not a personal favourite but a few members of our group did favour this and actually wanted it as our final logo design. When designing this logo I went for a more modern look and wanted to keep the colour scheme simple. Before designing these logo Collette also designed a logo that had a similar pattern in the background, so this logo was to include both our ideas. I used a modern and eye catching font to match the modern and eye catching design. We decided against using this logo as we didn't feel it conveyed our wedding theme as well as some of my other logo designs did.
In the above logo I tried to go for a floral, fun and modern pattern with modern tasteful colours. I do not think this logo worked well as I do feel the background was too busy and the font wasn't bold enough, which is why I tried using a darker colour for the font to make our business name stand out. I don't think this was favoured by any of the group so we didn't consider using this logo. Although I found that knowing what the group thought of my logo's helped to develop my final logo as I knew what we wanted to include.
For this logo I was trying out what I did in the previous logo design but toned it down slightly. I made a new background that still included a floral theme but not as busy and again went for a bold, eye catching and modern logo. We thought that this logo did work well but there were other logo's I had designed that fitted our business better.
The above logo is our final chosen design. All the group decided that this logo was the best for a wedding business because of the pinks, yellows and whites that are associated with weddings, and the classic floral design that adds an element of elegance to our company name. I also went for a classic timeless font to add to the elegance. I was very happy that this was our final logo design as I thought it conveyed our wedding photography theme perfectly.
I then emailed the chosen logo to Collette and Emma to use for letterheads, model release forms etc.
We thought for our wedding business about what more we could offer customers that other wedding photography businesses don't. We then decided that we could offer a range of different edits for our clients prints. Our idea was that we could show these different types of editing off in examples on our website or on other ways of advertising.
We felt by doing this our clients could have more control of how they want their wedding photograph prints to be.
I decided to design several styles of editing that would suit wedding images and give a diverse range.

Before designing the logo I also was in charge of writing the list of expenditure. Myself and the rest of the group were deciding on what equipment we would need and how much of it.
I then went and researched what lenses are best for wedding photography and why and wrote this down on the list of expenditure.
I totalled up the prices of how much each set of equipment and wrote this down on the list. Other things such as rent, electricity and phone bills also had to be totalled up but we were not that far ahead in knowing these details when I wrote the list.
I then emailed this list to Emma Ford and she then finished off the list of expenditure of the things we didn't know at first.
I was also in charge of listing places we could advertise.
I thought of several places to advertise such as
-Wedding fairs
-Wedding shops/Dress shops
-Function rooms
-Wedding magazines
-Internet- Facebook/Myspace/Twitter
-Billboards
-Shopping centres
-Flyers
-Posters
-Banners
-Business cards
-Company cars with our logo
